Code of Conduct

How the NETconsent Policy Management System helps

Most industries have some form of code of conduct by which employees must abide. By formalising your code of conduct you hope that people know about it. NETconsent ensures employees read your code of conduct and proves that they understand and agree to abide by it.

  • NETconsent electronic acceptance of policies at logon is by far the most practical, reliable and cost-effective method of ensuring that all users have read and accepted your Code of Conduct policy.
  • NETconsent records information about when a user accepted or declined a policy, so there is no ambiguity over policy version control.
  • NETconsent shows how well someone has understood each policy by testing understanding.
  • NETconsent reports shows who has yet to sign up to policies without the administrative burden associated with more traditional record keeping.
  • NETconsent provides real-time management reports showing overall levels of compliance crucial to improving governance.

The Code of Conduct Challenge - Protecting brand reputation

Employees in all walks of life are required to comply with the Code of Conduct set out by their respective employer or professional institutions. Lately many organisations, particularly in financial services and public life, have been discredited, and in some cases, the businesses have even failed, following inappropriate behaviour by their staff. Regulators and the public are demanding more accountability.

Whilst the onus lies on employees to ensure that they conduct themselves in a way that is acceptable, it is incumbent on the employer to ensure that systems are in place to support and reinforce the required standards of behaviour. Failure to do so may result in fines and in some cases imprisonment for managers and directors.

Five Policy Management tips

1. Code of Conduct policies should provide clear guidance on what are acceptable and unacceptable standards of conduct and workplace behaviour.

2. All employees should be required to familiarise themselves with policies relating to the Code of Conduct.

3. Get employees to sign their agreement to abide by Code of Conduct policies (less onerous with electronic signing). It will make life easier if disciplinary action becomes necessary.

4. Establish a policy management system which is practical to manage and easy to sustain over time.

5. Give a senior officer responsibility for ensuring that policies are implemented and enforced.
